Intravenous Therapy

A patient may be advised to receive intravenous steroid treatment. IV treatments will always take place at a medical center and usually take about an hour.

The nurse will check the patient’s blood pressure and pulse before and after the treatment. The medication is given by intravenous drip for 30 to 45 minutes or injected directly into a vein. Patients will usually receive a 1-to-5 day course of intravenous steroid treatment. After the treatment is complete, a patient is able to go about their normal daily activities, including driving.
